July Reads (And Podcasts)

Up to now, the books that I have read have all been autobiographies, however I’d seen quite a few recommendations for the book ‘The Flat Share’, I’ve never really been into ‘fiction’ and would prefer to learn something or take an interest in someone rather than listening to a story, but this book changed my mind, I’m glad I gave it a chance.

The Flatshare – Beth O’Leary

Writing this I have quite literally just finished this book and I have that feeling you get when you finish a really good series and know that there won’t be any more episodes (Schitts Creek for me but that’s another story) The book tells the story of a one bed flat share in London, where one character worked days and the other nights, so to save money they shared a one bed flat but didn’t ever bump into each other as part of the ‘agreement’. I’m conscious of giving too much away, but this is such a lovely story, I even went on walks when I didn’t need to just to get my daughter to sleep in the pushchair so that I could listen to a little bit more each time. The story is told in alternating chapters from each character’s perspective which keeps it interesting the entire way through. My favourite book to date (but to be honest the only fiction book I have read since Mary Kate and Ashley, aged 10), I highly recommend, maybe this is the start of bookworm life for me.

I only got through one book this month due to finding a few new podcasts that I really recommend for light-hearted humour on top of Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe’s Parenting Hell, which I am a long-time fan of and very much committed too;

1.Nearly Weds – By Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo – I caught up on all 17 episodes!
2. Spencer & Vogue – I dip in and out of these, recommend for light-hearted chat!
3. The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett – Each episode Is a different guest, often a celebrity guest or founder, I select the ones I fancy but so far they are all interesting and very thought provoking!
